QUALITY GEMS COURSES

Royal Dornoch Course

Dunbar Links
Par 71, 6404 yards
Dunbar Links course was designed by Old Tom Morris around 1850. It offers a breathtaking layout which makes it one of the best courses on the East Lothian coast. It is an easy course to walk, but if the wind blows, which it frequently does, the course becomes a demanding proposition. The course is in excellent condition and is used as an Open qualifier when the Championship is played at Muirfield along the coast.

Elie Golf House Club
Par 70, 6273 yards
This is a typical seaside links, but it does hold a few surprises, so be warned! The course is set on the wide, open West Bay of the East Neuk town of Elie and has excellent views over the Firth of Forth. The course's signature hole is the 380 yard, par 4, 13th, which was described by the legendary course architect James Braid as "the finest hole in all the country".

Irvine Bogside
Par 71, 6408 yards
Established over 100 years ago, owes much of its present day character to the design work of James Braid.   The ground rolls and bobs over ancient dune terrain, divided by gorse and heather between Irvine town, a racecourse and the River Irvine. Every hole has its own identity and the greens are fast and true.  The course presents a challenge to golfers of all abilities with its subtle changes in direction and demands accurate shot making. Bogside was one of the local Final Qualifying courses for the Open Championship in 2004.

Ladybank
Par 71, 6601 yards
Ladybank is a heathland course which has regularly been an Open Final Qualifying venue. Set amongst heather, pine trees and silver birch, the golf course is one of the best inland settings in Scotland. The initial six holes were laid out by Old Tom Morris.   The course is a serious test of accuracy off the tee and precision is required to access many of the tight and firm greens. The fairways are predominantly flat but if you stray offline expect to be heavily punished for your sins.

Lossiemouth
Par 71, 6643 yards
The township of Lossiemouth has two courses of high quality and of a championship standard sufficiently high to host the Northern Open. The courses are set along the wild sandy beaches of the Moray Firth and were built at a time when the Victorians considered sea bathing essential for good health and well-being. Lossiemouth is certainly a bracing place for the courses are hard and running with characteristic sea beech grasses that make for tight lies requiring the deft bump and run approach shot of sea side golf. The Old course is demanding and requires resolve and thought rather than power. A deft putting touch also helps.

Machrihanish
Par 70, 6225 yards
Not an easy course to reach but still a magnet for keen golfers. Established in 1876, it is a magnificent links layout. Best reached by air, this is one of the great days out in golf. It is truly a hidden treasure.

Nairn Dunbar
Par 72, 6765 yards
Foiunded in 1899, is a highly rated Scottish links championship course representing a formidable challenge with its gorse and whin lined fairways.  The club was the chosen as the venue in 1999 for the Northern Open Professional Championship, the Scottish Ladies Amateur Stroke Play and the Scottish Boys Stroke Play. In 2001 the club hosted the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship (qualifying rounds) and in 2002 the Seniors Home Internationals and the Scottish Open Amateur Mixed Tournaments.

Scotscraig
Par 71, 6550 yards
Founded in 1817 and one of the Final Qualifying courses when the Open Championship is played at St Andrews. The present course was laid out by James Braid in the 1920's and while close to the sea, it presents an interesting combination of links and parkland. The course's signature hole is the 4th, a par 4 of average length but with heather terrain to a plateau green that is a challenge to hit.  The course has smooth, fast greens and is normally in excellent condition. With many whin bushes and the rolling nature of the fairways, the course is both demanding and interesting. Players of all levels will find a days golf at Scotscraig a truly enjoyable challenge.

St. Andrew Dukes Course
Par 72, 6749 yards
Designed by five times Open Champion, Peter Thomson this is a classic Scottish heathland course and the perfect complement to the St Andrews links courses. Overlooking the town and bay of St Andrews the course offers spectacular views. Owned and operated by the 5* Old Course Hotel service standards are as you would expect. Carts are available and being a privately owned course, it's a great corporate or society venue

Tain Golf Links
Par 70, 6404 yards
Overlooking the Dornoch Firth, Tain arguably offers one of the best settings imaginable in the highlands for a round of golf. With sea on one side and the backdrop of the mountains behind, every day brings a different aspect to this challenging and beautiful course.  Designed in 1890 by Old Tom Morris, the layout of the holes guarantees an interesting round for beginners or expert. The sheltered location of the course ensures favorable weather conditions for most of the year - winter greens are seldom used at Tain.
