Day OneDeparting from Edinburgh or Glasgow we make our way to lonely Rannoch Moor and into Glen Coe, Scotland’s most famous glen and the scene of the terrible massacre in 1692. We will make a stop in the midst of this awe-inspiring scenery where you can enjoy an optional picnic lunch and a stroll in these dramatic surroundings. From Fort William the striking scenery of the Great Glen unfolds ahead of us: first Loch Lochy, then Loch Oich and finally Loch Ness. We will enjoy a drive along the banks of Loch Ness, stopping to visit Urquhart Castle with its panoramic lochside views. It is a popular spot with “Nessie” spotters, so keep a careful watch, just in case! Shortly we will arrive in Inverness, our home for tonight. The stay in Inverness is unescorted.
Day TwoAfter a leisurely breakfast this morning there is free time in Inverness for shopping or sightseeing. Later this afternoon we will depart Inverness and make our way through the gentle Spey Valley then on through stunning scenery as we drive over the Drumochter Pass. Keep a close watch for the deer that often come down to the roadside to graze. We’ll stop in the popular Victorian resort of Pitlochry, nestling on the banks of the River Tummel. From Perth we make our way homewards to journey’s end in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
